Development of a Responsible Labor Strategy for Sugar Company Tres Valles
Goal: Improve both company competitiveness and working conditions by creating a responsible labor strategy that can then be replicated in other Honduran sugar companies.
In comparison with large international players relying on increasingly mechanized production, the Honduran sugar industry remains relatively labor intensive, especially during sugarcane harvest season. In this context, sugar mill Compañía Azucarera Tres Valles (CATV) recognizes that a higher risk of labor standard violations can jeopardize access to international markets, and improving worker performance and productivity are critical to the company’s ability to maintain competitiveness. BSR and partner organization FUNDAHRSE are working with CATV to develop a strategy that prioritizes and addresses key labor issues and reflects the company’s commitment to responsible labor.
