Child Labor Eradication in Nicaragua’s Coffee Zones

Goal: Identify national and regional best practices aimed at eradicating child labor in agricultural settings and disseminate them to other companies and organizations.

Reducing the risk of fines, legal action, and loss of contracts are some of the reasons companies focus on keeping children out of their workforce. However, eliminating child labor in agricultural settings in developing countries can be very difficult due to cultural resistance, financial need of the families affected, and lack of educational opportunities for the children employed. BSR and partner organization uniRSE are working with Ramacafé and other coffee producers to educate and train agricultural companies in Nicaragua on implementation of best practices in child labor eradication using real-life examples from different companies, industries, and countries in the region.
