Human Rights and Labor Conditions at Ingenio Cristóbal Colón
Goal: Strengthen Ingenio Cristóbal Colón's capacity to understand and address human rights and labor conditions on its sugar plantations.
The sugar industry in the Dominican Republic faces two significant labor challenges: historic issues with labor conditions and the prevalence of immigrant workers who have few legal rights. BSR and local consultant Evaydee Pérez are working with Ingenio Cristóbal Colón to address these issues head-on through a pilot human rights assessment followed by recommendations to help the company address the findings of the assessment.
